Growing on ground that was already being farmed in 1936.
The nursery came later, but the land it stands on has a longer history than that.
Searle Grain Company land, then a nursery in 1966.
The property in East Selkirk was farmed by the Searle Grain Company from 1936 on, part of its Van Horne Farm. Thirty years later, in 1966, a nursery operation started on that same ground. That nursery grew into what's now Searle Greenhouses.
Family owned by the Van Beveren family.
Today the operation is owned by the Van Beveren family, running both the wholesale growing side and Prairie Garden Center, the retail arm. Independent, with no outside parent company.
Grown, sold, and delivered without handing off to anyone else.
Between the wholesale grower and the retail garden centre, Searle Greenhouses runs on around 50 employees at peak season, per public filings, plus its own trucking fleet, hauling stock to Home Depot locations and Saskatchewan garden centres through the spring rush. Growing, selling, and delivering, largely kept in house.
Sixty years growing, still on a site from years ago.
